Senator Golden took time out from his busy schedule in Albany to show his support for small businesses in his hometown of Brooklyn. He attended the grand opening ceremonies for Sarta Realty, a family owned business, where the Senator congratulated the Sarta and DiAngelis families on brave entrepreneurship during a tough economic time.
"Many families these days see the glass half empty," said the Senator, "but this family seems to have overcome [such pessimism] and has come to see the glass half full."
Though optimisim played a large part, the Sarta family has the trade in their blood. The patriarch, Gino Sarta has been running a successful steel business for over thirty years, while son Dominick Sarta has been a real estate developer for over 11 years. Other family members have years of experience in real estate sales as well. Combining all of the family's talents, Sarta Realty, located at 7317 - 13th Avenue in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn, offers homes and commercial spaces for sale and rent along with contracting, architectural design, home inspection, and financing services in Brooklyn, Staten Island, Queens, Rockaway, Manhattan, and even Florida.
"We aimed to take all of our skills and offer affordable services to people in the neighborhood and beyond," said Gino Sarta, "but really the joy is being able to work with my children and hopefully one day with my grandchildren."
The Senator complimented them for keeping the trade alive in the family, as he performed the ribbon cutting alongside Mr. Sarta's grandchildren, what he called "the next generation of real estate."
The event was not short of local supporters either, there were many people in attendance pouring out the doors and onto the street. Father Guy Sbordone of St. Dominic's parish led off the ceremonies with a blessing and a prayer. While friends, family, and other neighborhood business owners dined and toasted to seeing the glass half full.
